About the blog

SimplicityThe Minimal Millennial blog is my way of sharing my lifestyle in hopes to inspire change and to encourage you to share your journey towards a minimalist lifestyle as well.

Whether you’re technically a Millennial or not, we’re all feeling the strain of the “modern” and “normal” lifestyle. Many of us are dealing with debt, cluttered homes or relationships, stressful jobs or even just trying to figure out how to “grow up” in this world, so there’s something we can all share with each other.

This blog isn’t about selling things or promoting easy but expensive 30-day email-guided “life changing” programs, so if you do see ads, it’s because I haven’t upgraded my WordPress account to be fully ad-free yet. I’m not trying to sell you anything, which is a novel concept in the blog world these days. You won’t see sponsored posts, either. These are stories I’m happy to share freely with you.

This blog is for seekers: of happiness, of simplicity, of health & well-being. This blog is for us.

About me

Emily TorresMy name is Emily, and I’m a born-and-raised Indiana girl. I started my journey into a minimalist lifestyle when I moved four times in a year and realized that my clothes collection was – quite literally – weighing me down. Since then, I’ve donated, sold or trashed dozens of bags of possessions, and I’m not even finished.

In January 2015, my new husband and I moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue better weather, a change in atmosphere and a simpler lifestyle (meaning we’ve started over – we let go of almost all of our possessions in order to make this move).

Here are some of the things that inspire me, and that you’ll be reading about on this blog:

  • Minimalism
  • Financial independence
  • Healthy, simple eating
  • Positive thinking

    • Thanks JD! I’m happy to see you’re heading in the same direction, and I’m certainly looking forward to sharing more about my own experiences.

  1. Yes! I’m so happy to have found your blog. I blog about my minimalist lifestyle as well and it’s been so challenging to find others in my generation who do the same. I’m now following you, looking forward to future posts. 🙂

    • Thanks MJ! I’m so so sorry for the late response. I’ve been off the grid for a couple of months with my recent wedding and the blog has been neglected. I’m so excited that you’re reading now, and I hope we can connect more!

  3. Wow! Emily, I love your attitude and voice!! It’s simply electric! I’m so happy I found your blog. I live in the LA area too! Where do you live?? Perhaps we can meet for coffee someday soon!!! I love meeting fellow minimalists who are inspiring leaders!! 🙂

    • Thank you so much! I’m happy you found it too. I live in the Mid-Wilshire area (still haven’t found a consensus on what our area is really called) – near LACMA and The Grove. Drop me a line through the contact form and maybe we can work something out!

  4. Enjoy the far West, there is so much to do and see out there in California. I have lived in
California several times and most of the Western States and I love the West. Glad your life is happier and filled with more adventure.

  5. I just started a blog with very similar reasoning – I got so tired of those “take my ecourse to learn how to declutter” pitches on other blogs. I was happy to discover you and look forward to exploring your archives!
